Intended Use Of Tire

Passenger Vehicle. When a tire size begins with a P, it signifies the tire is a p-metric size that was designed to be fitted on vehicles that are primarily used as passenger vehicles. This includes cars, minivans, sport utility vehicles and light duty pickup trucks (typically 1/4- and 1/2-ton load capacity). The use of p-metric sizes began in the late 1970s and they are the most frequently used type of tire size today.

Following the letter(s) that identify the type of vehicle and/or type of service for which the tire was designed, the three-digit numeric portion identifies the tire's section width/cross section in millimeters.

The 255 indicates that this tire is 255 millimeters across from the widest point when mounted and measured on a specified width wheel. Because many people think of measurements in inches, the 255mm can be converted to inches by dividing the width in millimeters by 25.4 (the number of millimeters per inch).

Aspect Ratio

The ratio of the height of the tire's cross-section to it's width. 50 means that the height is equal to 50% of the tire's width.

Typically, following the three digits identifying the tire's width in millimeters is a two-digit number that identifies the tire's profile or aspect ratio.

The 50 indicates that this tire size's sidewall height (from rim to tread) is 50% of its width. The measurement is the tire's section height, and also referred to as the tire's series, profile or aspect ratio. The higher the number, the taller the sidewall. The lower the number, the lower the sidewall. We know that this tire size's section width is 255mm and that its section height is 50% of 255mm. By converting the 255mm to inches (255 / 25.4 = 10.04") and multiplying it by 50% (.50) we confirm that this tire size results in a tire section height of 5.02".

Construction Method

Radial. The R in the P255/50R19 103H size identifies that the tire has a radial construction in which the tire's plies "radiate" out from the center of the wheel. Radial tires are by far the most popular type of tire today representing over 98% of all tires sold.

If the R in the size was replaced with a D (P255/50R19 103H), it would identify that the internal tire body plies crisscross on a diagonal and that the tire has a "bias ply" construction. Tires using this construction are for light truck and spare tire applications.

These are the most common types of tire sizes and are used on most cars, minivans, vans, sport utility vehicles and light duty light trucks.

Tires and wheels with unique rim diameters should never be combined with traditional "inch rim" tires and wheels.

The 103 represents the tire's service description. A service description identifies the tire's load index and speed rating. Service descriptions are required on all speed rated (except for Z-speed rated) tires manufactured since the early 1990s.

H

Speed Rating

210mph. The maximum speed that the tire can sustain for 10 minutes.

Today, the only tires that continue to include the speed rating "in" the tire size (P255/50R19 103H) are Z-speed rated tires. In this case, following the two digits used to identify the aspect ratio are the letters ZR to identify the tire's speed rating (Z) and its internal construction (R). Since 1991, all other speed ratings are identified in the tire's Service Description.

Acura is the luxury vehicle marque of Japanese automaker Honda.[1] The brand was launched in the United States and Canada in March 1986, marketing luxury, performance, and high-performance vehicles. It was introduced to Hong Kong in 1991, Mexico in 2004, China in 2006, Russia in 2014 and Kuwait in 2015, and is also sold in Ukraine.[2] Honda's plan to introduce Acura to the Japanese domestic market (JDM) in 2008 was delayed, due to economic reasons,[3] and later withheld as a result of the 2008 financial crisis.[4]

Acura holds the distinction of being the first Japanese automotive luxury brand.[5] The creation of Acura coincided with the introduction of a JDM Honda dealership sales channel, called Honda Clio, which sold luxury vehicles, joining previously established Honda Verno, followed by Honda Primo the following year. In its first few years of existence, Acura was among the best-selling luxury marques in the US. Though sales were down in the mid-to-late 1990s, the brand experienced a revival in the early 2000s, due to drastic redesigns and the introductions of new models.[5]

In the late 1980s, the success of the company's first flagship vehicle, the Legend, inspired fellow Japanese automakers Toyota and Nissan to launch their own luxury brands, Lexus and Infiniti, respectively. The 1990 launch of the NSX, a mid-engine exotic sports car, offered a reliable and practical alternative to exotic European sports cars, and introduced Honda's VTEC variable valve timing system to the North American market. The 1993 Legend coupé featured Honda's first use of a six-speed manual transmission, mated to a Type II engine. In the late 1990s, Acura produced a Type R version of its compact Integra coupé, which featured a reduced curb weight, a stiffer and lower suspension, and a high-output VTEC engine.

In the early 2000s, Acura introduced new models, including the company's first all-original SUV, the MDX, and two models which replaced the Integra coupé and sedan, the RSX and TSX, respectively. Type-S versions of the RSX, CL, and TL were added to the brand's lineup during that decade. Acura's 2005 RL flagship introduced SH-AWD, a torque-vectoring all-wheel drive system. The 2007 RDX, a crossover SUV, featured the first North American use of a turbocharged Honda engine. In the 2010s, Acura debuted more new models, including the ILX, TLX, and RLX, the latter of which introduced Acura's Jewel Eye LED headlights.
